Your Staycation …Simple Serenity

Sometimes the best breaks of all, are those with yourself in your home. The daily grind can wear down even the most fit and optimistic among us. Sometimes to refuel and renew, a healthy dose of rest and relaxation in familiar territory does the trick.

Consider these ways to get in your zone:

Dream and Be Mindful

Read only for entertainment.

Download a motivational podcast.

Affirm what is working for you.

Pick a happy word of the day and say it a lot.

Design a vision board that captures your dreams.

Begin a Gratitude journal.

Memorize a favorite poem.

Focus on your breath when you find yourself off course.

Binge on classic movies that stir your heart.

Treat Yourself Like a Restaurant Patron

Make fresh smoothies and juices.

Pick or buy fresh flowers.

Set a fancy table.

Garnish your food and drinks.

Drink cool water that is infused with cucumbers or strawberries.

Experiment with great recipes.

Make Your Quarters Inviting

Light candles with gentle fragrances.

Play soothing music.

Frame happy photos of you long ago.

Buy a tabletop water fountain and enjoy the trickles.

Unplug from the news.

Pack away stuff that you’re tired of looking at.

Add pops of color with throws and pillowcases.

Rearrange a favorite shelf.

Honor Your Body and Change Your Look

Wear a vintage pin or ring that rocks.

Try that hairdo you’ve always wanted.

Polish your nails with vibrant colors.

Wear loose clothes that allow you to dance.

Buy new eyeglass frames that make you pop.

Soak with bubbles.

Use luscious body scrubs and lotions.

Wear cozy slippers and robes.

Ditch old makeup, towels and toiletries.

Write “Hello Gorgeous” with lipstick on your mirror.

Use a footstool – rest your feet.

Head Outside and Engage with Life

Plant some seeds, a flower or tree.

Try new tricks with your dog or cat.

Reach out to someone close by.

Clean and detail your car or bike.

Take a leisurely stroll to somewhere new.

Buy candy that you loved as a kid.

Find a swing at your local park, and go for it.

Visit a flea market and buy something sparkly.

Swim, walk or bike wearing something that is red.

Visit your local library and check out a new book.

Head to a local malt shop and indulge yourself.

Buy a lovely card for someone special.

Check out concerts and art shows near you.

Walk as if you owned the world.

Make a date with someone fun.

Pack a picnic and enjoy it at a winery.

There are endless possibilities near you. Many of them are free for the taking. Maybe these questions will help you take a staycation plunge:

  • What can I nurture?
  • What can I collect?
  • What can I make happen?
  • How can I stand out?
  • What can I learn and share?

This is your time. Attract good things and feelings into your life. Sometimes the easiest place to make them happen is right in your own backyard. Bon Voyage!
